LICHT STICKEN
LIGHT INSTALLATION FOR OSRAM - 2014
Object / Installation

The installation was part of the »OSRAM Light Art Award LIO 2013«. As first place, the installation was implemented and exhibited in the entrance area of the OSRAM headquarters in Munich. In 2024, the installation now gets a new place.

»The installation refers both to the past and the future. It symbolizes the creation of a new dimension in light in the form of the light emitting diode LED and reflects the origin of modern light.« Jury of LIO Light Art Award

»The installation "Licht sticken" is about history. It is about the history of the traditional light bulb and also about the history of the Osram company, which in a way "grew up" with the light bulb. A lot has happened in lighting technology since the company was founded in 1919. The light bulb, once a celebrated star, has now been banned since 2009 and is disappearing more and more from households and also from the minds of people who grew up with its light. With the end of the light bulb, the LED is now conquering the market, which impresses primarily with its energy efficiency, longevity and versatility. It is precisely this process, the replacement of the conventional light bulb by the light-emitting diode (both on the market and in the minds of the older generation) that is the central theme of the installation "Licht sticken". The installation shows the image of a stylised Osram light bulb stitched to the wall with LED tubes ("stitching" as a reference to tradition). On the left side of the stitched light bulb, the stitches come loose and gradually dissolve the image of the light bulb. What remains are the LED tubes and the light bulb would have disappeared completely. The new LED age begins.« Anna Stephan
